So, what does ‘viral content’ mean?

Well, it is anything posted online that reaches a large audience and becomes popular – this could either be short term or long-term. This can make any brand a household name and motivate an untapped audience to bring in revenue, therefore expanding your target audience. An interesting element of viral content is what does ‘go viral’, which usually is a random clip, image, and even story that unexpectedly brings huge success.

Since it relatively tends to be random, there are a few things you can do to increase your chance to achieve viral success.  There’s no proper guide or process as such, but there are a few key measures and considerations worth taking into consideration to maximize your success.

DO SOMETHING UNIQUE

Try to go viral on your own original unique idea concept rather than copying someone else’s idea, this means doing something no one has dared to do before or something that has been done but add your twist to it.

RESEARCH POPULAR QUESTIONS

Answering popular questions is a great way to come up with an article idea that has as solid viral potential. E.g., Text Optimizer is great to find popular questions around any search query, and can be a good first step to creating something viral.

KEEP THINGS HIGH QUALITY

There are a lot of things that have gone viral because they were pretty bad, but it hit that spot between bad and so bad that it’s hilarious. Now, that really isn’t easy to nail the first time and trust us you’re better off producing content you’d be proud of.

BE CONTROVERSIAL

Today? Controversy sells!
Everyone has an opinion on everything now, whether it’s online or offline. Take advantage of that and play the field but don’t get outright offensive and stir up something that will blow back on your face. But, tackle a topic that would attract your niche.

CATCH THE TRENDS EARLY

Catch on trends early to provide a significant advantage, as the longer you wait, the more people get on the bandwagon and the less effective your take on the trend would be. For Eg. The original hit ‘Gangnam Style’ that came out in 2012, helped content creators gain popularity for their own material after publishing their take on the hit dance move from the music video.

DON’T TRY TOO HARD OR YOUR EFFORTS WILL BACKFIRE

Honestly, there’s no easy way to avoid this, you just need to be aware of the cringe factor this can often have the opposite of your content’s effort.

TO SUM UP – the more you do, the better your chances will be to go viral, which means a lot of experimenting and seeing what people do. There’s no magic formula, just be present, be active that will, in turn, maximize your opportunities for success.
